I hope that digital camo pattern is sticky contact paper and they didn't make their people really paint all those little squares on. Do you think they did that simply to piss off scale model builders?

But if they didn't make them paint it on then it wouldn't be digicool. On the plus side they did make they wheels easy, just use buttons

Hello,

if you visit the site for the first time, you need some two days to see all the pictures.

Why do paint them on, and especially when they paint the rest of the vehicle in a "digital" pattern? Is it some military hipster boss sitting in the Chinese military equivalent to Starbucks sipping on his mochafrattechaiepperminttea with a smug superior grin on his face, while thinking: "We're gonna look tacticool in a modern way, but also commiecool in a retro way." ? They also still seem to have the old commie preference for rather shiny paints.

Yeah, I'm half expecting to see macbook consoles, aerospoke front sprockets, single speed rigid transmissions and messenger bags instead of rucksacks :P

It's not digital camo, pictures are just really low resolution... ;)

These are all pictures from parades (think Red Square in the old days).

The vehicles pictured actually serve with three different services - army, navy and air force. Hence the different paint schemes. The PRC maintains a marine corps under its navy, and a paratroop force under its air force. The army is the senior service in the PLA though.

AFAIK, the Chinese navy is subordinate to the Army. Its full official name is the People's Liberation Army Navy. It's all part of the plan to keep the occidental observers off balance.

Do we know anything about the doctrinal employment differences between the ZBD04 and ZBD05?
And between the ZBD04 and ZTD05?

There seems to be considerable overlap there.
What does the long 105 do that the BMP3 turret can't? Engage some older armour perhaps, but it seems a strange combo.

Same for the ZBD05, why the single 30mm turret when there is the ZBD04 around?

Seems a weird mix...

I was in Beijing during the rehearsal weeks. My Taiwanese colleagues all took an unhealthy interest in the ballistic missile units.

For Taiwanese, I'd think that would be a very healthy interest. ;)

And soon enougth PLAN will have carriers wit their own airwings, which I expect to be called People's Liberation Army Navy Airforce.
Their cammo should be something extraordinary! I expect nothing less than suuper-coolness! (Red ang gold diggi-cammo with three layers extra shiny lacquer and wax, at least).

Don't forget either mirror reflective, or silver glittery, side walls on the aircraft tires.
